Do you want to help people fleeing Syria? Here's how you can.
I'm sure many of you will be watching in horror as the situation gets worse and worse for the people desperately trying to escape the violence and destruction in East Ghouta, as well as other parts of Syria. It's devastating to think that this is happening to families just like our own, and it can make you feel powerless - but there are things you can do. We formed the Welcome Committee because we can no longer just sit back and watch as people are forced to run for dear life, leaving behind their homes, their loved ones, their lives. We are going to bring two families, who were forced to flee Syria, over to London to start a new life here in safety. We'll help and support them every step of the way. Would you like to help us? There are a few ways you can get involved. 1. Help us find a place for them to call home - we are desperate to find a private landlord willing to accommodate our first refugee family anywhere in the London borough of Lambeth. If you know of anyone who might be able to help us with this, please, please, please get in touch. This is pretty much the only thing we now need before we can welcome our first family to London. Will you be the person who helps us find a place? 2. Volunteer with us when the families are here - you can choose the hours you do, and choose what you help with. Maybe you'd like to do some English conversation practice? Or help out with an Ikea run? However and whenever you would like to help, we would love to have you. 3. The most crucial one - please tell people about us - the only way we can find more people to help us is if amazing people like you share information about what we're doing. You could be the person that links us up with someone willing to rent us a new home for the families! Our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TheWelcomeCommitteeCommunityGroup
